From The Desk of The Editor-in-Chief

Dear Colleague,

We would like to take this opportunity to express our sincere appreciation to our authors, reviewers, and all stakeholders who continue to support and contribute to the growth of the West African Journal of Medicine (WAJM). Your collective efforts remain the backbone of our progress and the driving force behind our commitment to advancing medical knowledge and practice within the region and beyond.

To our esteemed reviewers, we extend our deepest gratitude for the invaluable role you have played in the continued success of the journal over the years. Your dedication, expertise, and unwavering commitment to excellence have been instrumental in maintaining the quality, credibility, and integrity of our publications. Through your thoughtful evaluations and constructive feedback, you have not only helped ensure the steady and timely publication of the journal but have also significantly strengthened its impact within the medical and scientific community. Your contributions extend far beyond the review process, as they help shape the direction of research, uphold ethical standards, and inspire confidence in the work we publish.

As we move forward, we remain committed to fostering this strong collaborative spirit and to continuing to build a platform that reflects excellence, innovation, and relevance in medical research.

TRANSITION TO A NEW PUBLICATION SCHEDULE

We would like to reiterate the journal’s updated publication schedule. Due to challenges related to reviewer availability and manuscript turnaround times, the journal has undertaken a strategic review of its publication process.

Going forward, the journal will be published three times a year, with each issue covering a four-month period.

Please note the following key updates:

  • The first issue under the new schedule, covering September–December 2025, has been published.
  • The subsequent issue, covering January–April 2026, has also been published.
  • We are currently working on the May–August 2026 issue.

We appreciate your continued support and understanding as we implement this transition to improve the efficiency and quality of our publication process.

CALL FOR REVIEWERS

We kindly appeal to you to give priority to any pending manuscript reviews and submit your recommendations at the earliest opportunity. Your timely contribution greatly strengthens the quality and impact of the journal.

To further enhance the quality of our peer-review process, we are actively seeking, enthusiastic, and dedicated reviewers across all specialties. We welcome individuals who are willing to contribute their expertise and commit to reviewing manuscripts within the designated time frame.

If you are interested in joining our pool of reviewers—or if you know someone who might be—please reach out to me.

MOVING FORWARD

I remain optimistic about the future of WAJM. With your continued collaboration, we will not only overcome existing challenges but also elevate the journal to new heights of academic excellence and global recognition.

Thank you once again for your continued support and commitment to the West African Journal of Medicine. I look forward to our sustained collaboration as we work together to enhance the journal’s impact and advance medical research and healthcare in West Africa and beyond.
