From The Desk of The Editor-in-Chief

Dear Esteemed Researchers, Reviewers, and Stakeholders,

This marks our maiden newsletter and correspondence to our valued community of researchers, reviewers, and stakeholders. Although we are already in the third month of the year, we would like to take this opportunity to extend our warm wishes for a Happy New Year. We trust that the past few months have been fulfilling and fruitful for you, despite the myriad of challenges and difficulties that often accompany our professional and personal pursuits.

We deeply appreciate the invaluable role you have played in the continued success of the West African Journal of Medicine (WAJM) over the years. Your dedication, expertise, and unwavering commitment have been instrumental in ensuring the steady publication of the journal and strengthening its impact within the medical and scientific community.

We are pleased to inform you that the August 2025 edition of WAJM has now been published.

Our editorial and production teams remain fully committed to advancing the journal through strategic initiatives aimed at enhancing its relevance, improving operational efficiency, and strengthening its global visibility.

TRANSITION TO QUARTERLY PUBLICATION

We wish to inform you of an important update to the journal’s publication schedule. Due to challenges associated with reviewer availability and manuscript turnaround times, the journal has undertaken a strategic review of its publication process.

As a result, the journal will adopt a quarterly publication model, with each issue spanning a four-month period.

Please note the following key points:

  • Manuscripts slated for September 2025 will be compiled and published as a concluding issue for the 2025 publication year.
  • The first quarterly issue will cover September–December, 2025.
  • Subsequent quarterly issues will commence from January–April,2026 and continue in the same pattern.

These changes are intended to ensure a more reliable review process, clearer publication timelines, and improved overall author experience.

We will provide additional guidance regarding manuscript processing and scheduling as the transition progresses.

CALL FOR REVIEWERS

We kindly appeal to you to give priority to any pending manuscript reviews and submit your recommendations at the earliest opportunity. Your timely contribution greatly strengthens the quality and impact of the journal.

To further enhance the quality of our peer-review process, we are actively seeking, enthusiastic, and dedicated reviewers across all specialties. We welcome individuals who are willing to contribute their expertise and commit to reviewing manuscripts within the designated time frame.

If you are interested in joining our pool of reviewers—or if you know someone who might be—please reach out to me.

MOVING FORWARD

I remain optimistic about the future of WAJM. With your continued collaboration, we will not only overcome existing challenges but also elevate the journal to new heights of academic excellence and global recognition.

Thank you once again for your continued support and commitment to the West African Journal of Medicine. I look forward to our sustained collaboration as we work together to enhance the journal’s impact and advance medical research and healthcare in West Africa and beyond.
